Mr. Herzak began his insurance career in 1968 and has continuously represented clients at the agency level. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Myers University in Cleveland where he majored in Social Science and minored in Business Management.
He has long been active within the insurance industry where he served in many capacities. He was president of the Professional Insurance Agents Association of Ohio (PIA) in 1983-1984 and a director for 12 years. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) for 10 years and the Certified Professional Insurance Agents Society (CPIA). He served as President of the CPIA Society from 1989 to 1991. From 1985-1991 he was a board of member of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors, and organization dedicated to certification and continuing education. In 1984, Mickey received a citation from the Ohio House of Representatives for his work on behalf of the Ohio insurance industry. He currently is again director and secretary of the CPIA Society. In 1995, the Professional Insurance Agents Association of Ohio named him the "Ohio Professional Agent of the Year," the highest distinction awarded by that group. He has been sought by the presidents of insurance companies to serve on their President's Advisory Councils, having served Motorists, Utica National, Atlantic Mutual, and Grange Insurance companies in this capacity.
Mr. Herzak received the professional designations of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) in 1977, Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA), life membership, in 1982, and most recently received certification as a Risk Manager for Churches and Schools (CRMCS) from the University of Cambridge, England in 2003.
Civically, Mr. Herzak is Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Myers University, and since 1984 has coached youth basketball, baseball, and softball in the City of Independence where he resides. In June, 2006 Mr. Herzak and his wife Paula assumed co-chairmanship of the Metropolitan Cleveland Chapter of the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC). He also serves on various other civic boards both locally and nationally.
Mickey has served the Orthodox Church in a variety of capacities, as well. He was president of the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America (FOCA) from 1976-1978, Chairman of the Council of Eastern Orthodox Youth Leaders of the Americas (CEOYLA), and has served on two OCA units over the years. He served as a member of the Pre-Conciliar Commission for the 12th, 13th, and 14th All American Councils, as well as lay chair for both the 12th and 13th. Then, at the 13th All-American Council, he was elected an alternate to the Metropolitan Council. He was President of Archangel Michael Orthodox Church in Broadview Heights, Ohio for several years. Currently, he is a trustee of St. Tikon's Theological Seminary and a member of the diocesan council of the OCA's Diocese of the Midwest. His Beatitude, Metropolitan Theodosius awarded he and his wife the order of St. Innocent (silver medal) in May 2002.
